Post Visitors to the Lever Club Reply with quote
A reminder to bowlers and guests.
The Lever Club, Port Sunlight has a policy regarding self bought drinks, particularly alcoholic beverages. This policy covers not only the inside of the club but also the area surrounding (all four sides) of the bowling green.
Visitors (which include, visiting teams) and their guests are politely reminded that only beverages purchased from the Lever Club can be consumed within the mentioned club boundaries.
Visiting teams are reminded that the Lever Club is a “private members club” and as such visiting teams are entitled to purchase drinks, during their match, from within the club, at the members rates, which are quite well discounted.
All clubs and certainly those with bar facilities, will no doubt echo these sentiments.
Finally I would like to ask all bowlers and their guests to accept the hospitality of the Lever Club when involved in matches and in return, we respectfully ask, if you would please purchase your beverages from the Lever Club.
Regards Rob Preston, Lever Club

Rob,I understand what you are saying, and this post is about our game on Monday at your green against Tixall B. If your member had just come round and explained it would have been sorted, but he came round shouting and using bad language in front of one of the wives and children,he even atempted to take a bottle of water off one of our players and thats when it all kicked off. some of our players will not stand for it.This is what happened from a Kings point of veiw..Brian Lane Kings..

ynwa I agree with you but when teams have under 18's playing most of them bring soft drinks / water because in some cases some clubs will not allow under 18's to get drinks from the bar so most bring drinks for them and in these weather conditions can you blaim them for bring drinks but as long as you are saying under 18's will be severed with soft drinks / water at your bar I will make sure are clubs young bowls will respect your club and buy form your bar but if they do not get severed I hope you will respect the fact that they have their own drinks because they where not served at your bar and change to allow them to.
If your Club does not serve under 18's I must agree with Tixalls who have a number of young bowlers need to be able to have a drink if only because of the weather we are having at this time then no bowler or league can blaim them for having thier own water.

Brian, I personally will not condone the methods used to approach your members on the Monday you speak about, all I will say is its born of frustration from the Lever main club who see this as an issue with the bowling fraternity and I had a long discussion with Mark and Robbie from your club after the game on the subject.
You will notice that I did not refer to any specific incidences in my posting, as yours was not an isolated case, I am just taking the opportunity that Mr Crownbowling has presented to get the message out to as many people as possible in the bowling community.
BigMac66 Your point is very valid as many clubs do not serve people under a certain age, this does not however stop a person of the correct age buying them a “soft” drink. I appreciate there are ways around most things , and common sense can prevail, but when you have, players, visitors, guests supplying beer (and in some instances selling beer) around the green, we have a problem, and that is the issue I am trying to ask visitors to respect.
Your second point about asking people not to drink around your green and them respecting that request, Again I agree done in the proper manner that is a good way to go about it, all I am attempting to do is raise awareness of the issue particularly at the Lever and get the message across to a bigger audience.

Gents thank you for your response and
Regards Rob Preston, Lever Club

Rob, this is a fair point. Without naming other clubs, I think this is the norm at any private members and I think it is just accepted. As to bringing and selling beer, that's just taking the mick.
